FRP Resin Selection Wizard
FRP Resin Selection Wizard
Answer five service questions. Each resin is scored 0–10 per criterion, weighted and summed; the two best-scoring resins are recommended with a cost index. The strictest single requirement (strongest chemical, hottest service, strictest fire code) should normally govern.
1 · Your Service Conditions
Run the wizard to see top resins.
Select your service conditions and press Recommend a Resin — the top two resin systems are scored and ranked.
Resin Systems Compared
Typical, indicative property ranges. Actual grades vary by manufacturer and formulation; confirm against the approved datasheet for the grade quoted.
| Resin System | Glass Transition Tg | Max Continuous Temp. | Chemical Resistance | Fire Performance | Typical Applications | Cost Index |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orthophthalic Polyester | 70 – 90 °C | ≈ 60 – 80 °C | Good to moisture / mild acids; limited vs. oxidizers & solvents | Self-extinguishing; typically Class C | Dry, non-corrosive walkways; general building | 1.0× |
| Isophthalic Polyester | 100 – 120 °C | ≈ 80 – 100 °C | Good acids, alkalis, moisture and saltwater; the cost workhorse | Class B with FR formulation | Standard plant, wastewater, marine splash, cooling towers | 1.3× |
| Vinyl Ester | 120 – 150 °C | ≈ 120 °C | Excellent strong acids, oxidizers, chlorine bleach & brine | Class B (Class A with FR grade) | Chemical processing, offshore, pulp & paper | 1.8× |
| Fire-Retardant Vinyl Ester | 110 – 130 °C | ≈ 110 °C | Excellent chemical resistance with halogenated / FR formulation | Class A / B ASTM E84 | Fire-rated chemical areas, offshore modules | 1.8 – 2.0× |
| Phenolic | > 200 °C | ≈ 150 – 200 °C+ | Good acids & solvents; lower vs. strong alkalis | Inherently Class A, very low smoke & toxicity | Tunnels, escape routes, offshore accommodation | 2.5× |
Food contact and potable-water service additionally require an approved food-grade / potable-water resin grade (e.g. FDA / WRAS / KTW-compliant). UV service requires a UV-stabilized resin grade.
Need a Confirmed Resin & Datasheet?
List every chemical by name, concentration and temperature — we match the resin and share technical datasheets and test evidence.
Design basis: ZeAllgrate (Fiberglass Grating Manufacturers Council / ACMA) design guidelines; ASTM D790 (flexural properties), ASTM D638 (tensile), ASTM D648 (heat deflection) and ASTM E84 (surface burning). Resin property data based on Ashland / Reichhold technical datasheets. All outputs are INDICATIVE estimates for specification guidance only — they are NOT a substitute for certified load/span charts, approved resin datasheets or professional engineering judgment. Final design must be verified by ZeAllgrate engineering.
